| Why
do we write on the walls and doors of a toilet cubicle? What is it
that drives us to reveal secrets that ordinarily would stay locked
away?
The complexity of the human mind can be shown in a myriad of ways,
from scientific experimentation to individual artistic works. Our aim
is to show how this complexity varies from one individual to another
using the human body as our canvas, at the same time fusing fine art,
photography, and film making.
The origins of speech and the human mind are shown to have emerged
simultaneously as two separate paths from precepts and concepts. It
is said: speech arose primarily as a way to control information and
then was used as a tool for communication.
Could it be that thought is not silent speech but rather speech is
vocalised thought?
Inspired by, Virginia Woolf’s work on the complexity & vulnerability
of the human mind, Will Self’s musings on toilet door graffiti,
Spencer Tunick’s multiple nudes and Henning Von Berg’s
guerrilla nudes.
We invite everyone that attends, to take a pen and write whatever
they are compelled to write on any of the live models present. This
will not just be a one way communication but a potentially interactive
process where you might have a conversation with the body you are writing
on. There is no influence, no judgement, and no pre-conceived notion – just
as it would be locked away behind a toilet door. However, the anonymity
normally afforded by closed doors is completely removed and may challenge
what is written.
By photographing and filming the entire process, the final exhibition
will once more invite individuals to analyse their own thoughts and
those of others. Fantasies, fears, political views, ignorance and desires
affect those around us in both a direct and indirect manner, and it is
perhaps the very complexity of the human mind that makes us vulnerable
and unique.
